Historic Saranac Lake is thrilled to present an evening of live theatre and living history. On Saturday, April 24, Historic Saranac Lake will sponsor the first public hearing of a new chamber musical, At Saranac, by Phill Greenland and Tyler Nye.
The play is set in Saranac Lake during the mid-1920s, and concerns a remarkable Trudeau Sanatorium resident named John Theodore Dalton. Jack Dalton was a playwright, poet, and composer who lived in Saranac Lake from 1923 to 1927. Jack’s last published song was written while living at Ludington Infirmary on the Trudeau grounds.
Historic Saranac Lake’s local history experts will offer a twenty minute multi-media presentation including photos and archival material describing the people and places mentioned in the play, followed by the authors reading and singing thirty minutes of scenes and songs from the new show. Tyler Nye will perform the role of Jack Dalton, with Phill Greenland at the piano. Cookies, tea, and coffee with the Historic Saranac Lake staff and the authors of the show will follow the performance.
HSL is especially excited to be presenting this evening of live theatre and local history “on site,” in the (awesome) John Baxter Black room at Dr. Trudeau’s Saranac laboratory. Funds from the evening’s event will support further development of the musical and the work of Historic Saranac Lake.
